street punk! oi! synthesizers! ian mackaye voice! this record has it all! GAMES OF POWER is the first full-length from rockers of canadia HOME FRONT, and it’s a doozy. the first 60 seconds of this record give you a great preview of what you’re in for — driving floor tom and snare, street punk guitar lead, and, then, in come the synthesizer and the electronic drums, and, finally, great lyrics to kick off any punk record: NOBODY HERE GETS OUT ALIVE.
lyrically, it’s more or less what you expect from the genre, but “THIS IS THE NEW FACE OF DEATH / NOT LIKE THE OTHER DEATH” from “New Face of Death” cracks me up every time i hear it, and “Overtime” contains a funny aside about feeling like everything is hopeless and needing a reminder to just get some sleep.
